GWADAR: A major multi-agency effort is underway to tackle the severe water crisis in Gwadar and its surrounding regions. On the instructions of the Balochistan government, various institutions have supplied millions of gallons of water through pipelines, desalination plants, and a large fleet of water tankers.
Substantial water supplies were delivered from key dams. The Shadi Kaur Dam supplied 10.50 lakh gallons to the city via pipeline, while the Gwadar Development Authority (GDA) transported 10.98 lakh gallons from the Mirani Dam using 95 water bowsers. Furthermore, the Gwadar Port Authority (GPA) provided 10.51 lakh gallons of desalinated water to the residents of the Old Town area.
The relief efforts extended beyond the city center. The Public Health Engineering department supplied water to outlying areas like Chub Kalamati and Jiwani through numerous tanker trips. A pipeline from Sint Sar also provided water to the residents of Gunz, Peshkan, and Panwan.
The district administration stated that these coordinated measures are part of a concerted effort to meet public needs and bring the ongoing water crisis under control.
In a related but seperated development the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Composite Circle Gwadar foiled an attempt to illegally cross into Iran via the sea route and arrested nine individuals involved.
According to an FIA spokesperson, the arrested suspects belong to different districts of Punjab — including six from Mandi Bahauddin, two from Gujranwala, and one from Sheikhupura. The FIA team apprehended them from the coastal area of Jiwani as they were attempting to leave Pakistan illegally for Iran.
Initial investigations revealed that the suspects planned to travel to other countries through Iran. The FIA has registered a case against them under charges of human smuggling and illegal border crossing.
