Gwadar: The administration of the Gwadar Free Zone has announced the indefinite suspension of salaries for its local employees, without providing any assurance or timeline for the resumption of payments.
This development has raised concerns over the financial stability of the project, which is considered a vital component of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
According to employees, the company informed them that salaries cannot be disbursed at present and no commitment can be made regarding when regular payments will resume.
This uncertainty has led to frustration among workers and concern within the community, where the Free Zone is regarded as a cornerstone of Gwadar’s economic future.
Analysts note that the absence of a clear timeline reflects deeper financial challenges and could undermine confidence in the Free Zone’s operations.
Critics argue that such developments cast doubt on the long-term sustainability of CPEC projects in Gwadar.
Local representatives have urged Chinese authorities and CPEC officials to address the matter immediately, stressing that the suspension of salaries not only impacts families but also risks damaging confidence in the broader vision of development for the city.
The Gwadar Free Zone was launched with promises of boosting trade, investment, and industrial growth.
