Govt waives electricity bills for flood-affected areas, Refunds Announced

ISLAMABAD: The federal government has announced a major relief initiative for flood-affected communities by waiving electricity bills for the month of August 2025.

In this sense, Federal Minister for Power Division Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari expressed thanks to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for what he described as a timely and people-friendly decision.

He stated that immediate implementation of the relief directive would be ensured, adding that the refund process would cover those who had already cleared their bills.

In addition, earlier, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had ordered a halt to the collection of electricity bills from flood-hit consumers, focusing on the fact that the government’s foremost priority was to provide urgent relief to citizens facing extraordinary hardship.

Furthermore, a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office said that an important meeting was convened to review the situation in flood-stricken areas and to decide on relief measures for electricity consumers.

The meeting directed all power distribution companies to immediately suspend the recovery of August bills from households and businesses in affected districts.

Moreover, the Prime Minister further noted that once negotiations with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) are finalized, the government will announce a comprehensive package for flood-affected electricity consumers.

Additionally, Shehbaz Sharif said that millions of Pakistanis across multiple provinces had been severely impacted by the floods. He reasserted the government’s commitment to stand by the people during this crisis.

The announcement has been widely welcomed as a much-needed step to ease the financial burden on vulnerable families and businesses struggling to recover from the devastation caused by unprecedented flooding.
