ISLAMABAD: The Ministry of Interior has deployed the Pakistan Army nationwide in response to potential security threats during Muharram.
The federal cabinet approved the deployment after reviewing a summary from the ministry.
An official notification has been issued.
Troops will be posted in all four provinces, Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Kashmir, and Islamabad.
The deployment follows requests from provincial governments and administrative bodies.
They sought extra security for sensitive areas during the holy month.The army will operate under Article 245 of the Constitution.
This article allows the military to support civil institutions. Soldiers will carry out joint patrols and surveillance with local police and Rangers.
Sources said high-risk areas will get extra surveillance through CCTV monitoring.
Authorities are also considering temporary internet shutdowns in unrest-prone areas.
The Interior Ministry has urged citizens to report any suspicious activity immediately. Officials say early reporting can help prevent violence during Muharram.
