ISLAMABAD: In a major escalation of counter-terrorism efforts, a grand operation against banned organizations is set to be launched across the country. The decision was finalized during a high-level security meeting chaired by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, signaling a zero-tolerance approach towards militancy and sleeper cells.
The meeting, which saw the participation of the Inspectors General (IGs) of Police from all four provinces, was convened to assess the current threat landscape and coordinate a unified response. Police officials provided a detailed briefing on the law and order situation in their respective provinces, highlighting vulnerabilities and recent movements of suspected elements.
A key point of discussion was the potential presence of the banned militant group ISIS (Islamic State) within Pakistan. The participants considered intelligence reports regarding the group’s possible footprint and discussed strategies to neutralize any emerging threat. The primary focus, however, remained on rooting out sleeper cells of proscribed organizations that could pose a risk to national security.
