Quetta – A 10-member delegation from Individual Land Pakistan (IL) met Balochistan Governor Jaffar Khan Mandokhail at the Governor House as part of a European Union–supported project titled Enhancing Media Representatives’ Capacity and Promoting Fundamental Human Rights through Inclusion, jointly implemented by IL and the Centre for Peace and Development Initiatives (CPDI).
The meeting was facilitated by IL’s Integrated Operations and Program Manager, Khoso Saifullah, and focused on key issues of media freedom, civic participation, and human rights in the province.
In Balochistan news updates, Delegates shared their experiences from ongoing activities in Balochistan, highlighting challenges faced by journalists, increasing restrictions on independent reporting, and the urgent need to safeguard fundamental rights.
They emphasized closer cooperation among civil society, media organizations, and government offices to ensure a free and safe environment for journalism.
Saifullah noted that, with the Governor’s support, media information literacy could be strengthened so that media consumers also understand their responsibilities, ultimately reinforcing democracy.

Governor Mandokhail welcomed the delegation’s recommendations and reaffirmed the provincial government’s commitment to democratic values and constitutional freedom of expression.
He explained that while the province is merging certain academic departments to strengthen educational institutions, the media department will remain intact because of high student enrollment.
Endorsing the proposal to improve curricula, he assured the group that, as Chancellor, he would forward their suggestion to the Higher Education Commission.
Civil society representative Dr. Aziz raised concerns about the recent government decision on the repatriation of refugees, noting its impact on refugee students enrolled in various universities.
He urged the need for an immediate policy to ensure continuity of their education.

The meeting was hailed as a positive step toward strengthening ties between government institutions and civil society, with both sides agreeing to maintain dialogue to promote transparency, protect journalists, and enhance accountability in policymaking for a healthy journalism.
