KARACHI: Sindh School Education Department Extends School Timings Due to Severe Cold
The Sindh School Education Department has extended its earlier decision to start schools at 9:00 AM in the morning owing to the prevailing intense cold wave.
Secretary School Education Sindh, Zahid Ali Abbasi, has issued a notification in this regard.
According to the notification, schools will continue to open at 9:00 AM until 4 February.
The decision applies uniformly to both government and private schools.
Previously, a notification issued on 10 January had set this change in school timings until 26 January, and the department has now approved an extension beyond that date.
Meanwhile, Chairman All Sindh Private Schools and Colleges Association, Haider Ali, has welcomed the decision and praised it as a wise strategy by Sindh Education Minister Syed Sardar Ali Shah to protect students from harsh weather while ensuring continuity of the educational process.
However, in a statement, he urged the immediate convening of a meeting of the Steering Committee or its sub-committee to finalize the academic calendar for 2026.
He stressed that it is an urgent need to finalize key matters including examinations up to Class VIII, board examinations, their result schedules, new admissions, the start of the academic year, holidays, and other important issues.
He further emphasized that the prompt issuance of a uniform, examination syllabus and question paper specifications is essential for boards, teachers, and students to adequately prepare.
