LAHORE: The Punjab government has declared a local holiday in the provincial capital Lahore on February 6 to mark the occasion of Basant.
The decision to observe a holiday on that day was approved by the provincial government on the recommendation of the district administration.
According to details, the purpose of declaring February 6 a holiday is to enable citizens to fully participate in Basant celebrations.
Sources indicate that although the district administration had initially proposed a holiday on February 5, the provincial government approved the closure on February 6 due to the main Basant festivities taking place on that day in Lahore.
The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Lahore has instructed that children under 18 years of age should celebrate Basant only in the company of their family members, so that safety, discipline, and order can be maintained during the traditional festival.
The DC Lahore stated that the government and concerned departments will ensure citizens can take part in Basant events in a peaceful and secure environment.
Meanwhile, the police have divided Lahore into Red, Blue, and Green zones in connection with Basant celebrations.
They clarified that sensitive and densely populated areas have been placed in the Red Zone, where the strictest restrictions will apply.
Relatively lower-risk areas have been categorized as Blue Zone, while safer areas fall under the Green Zone.
