RAWALPINDI: A Special Guard of Honour ceremony was held at the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi on Wednesday. The event honoured Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir on his promotion to the highest rank.
At the ceremony, held at Yadgar-e-Shuhada within GHQ, Field Marshal Munir laid a floral wreath and offered Fateha. He paid tribute to the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for Pakistan.
The federal government promoted General Munir to field marshal for his outstanding leadership. He played a key role in Pakistan’s recent military clashes with India and the success of “Operation Bunyan-um-Marsoos.”
The Prime Minister’s Office said, “COAS Gen Asim Munir led the Pakistan Army with courage and determination. He coordinated war strategy and the efforts of the armed forces effectively.”
Field Marshal Aism Munir dedicated the honour to the Pakistani nation. He thanked the Armed Forces, law enforcement agencies, and civil veterans for their sacrifices.
He especially praised the martyrs. He said they stood “like a wall of steel” against India’s unprovoked, cowardly, and unlawful aggression.
“This honour is a tribute to the Pakistani nation and the brave men and women of the Armed Forces, especially the martyrs,” he said.
In response to India’s unprovoked attacks on May 6 and 7, Pakistan launched “Operation Bunyan-um-Marsoos” on May 10. The military struck several Indian targets across different regions.
Pakistan had shot down six Indian fighter jets, including three Rafales, and dozens of drones. After 87 hours, the conflict ended with a ceasefire brokered by the United States.
India’s strikes killed 53 people, including 13 armed forces personnel and 40 civilians.
