Geo News disowns viral message spread by hackers

Islamabad:  Geo News has confirmed that its broadcast transmission, carried via the PakSat satellite, has been under sustained hacking attempts for the past 24 hours.

According to an official statement from Geo News management:

  • Repeated efforts have been made by unknown parties to disrupt live broadcasts.
  • In recent hours, the Geo News screen has been compromised, with inappropriate and unauthorized messages being displayed over the air.
  • The channel is currently experiencing continuous interruptions and signal interference.

Geo News has categorically stated that this cyber intrusion has no connection whatsoever with the channel’s editorial team or operations. The network strongly condemns this act of digital sabotage and views it as a deliberate attempt to interfere with independent journalism in Pakistan.

The channel has formally requested relevant authorities, including the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) and law enforcement agencies, to take immediate notice of the matter, launch a thorough investigation, trace the perpetrators, and bring those responsible to justice.

Social media posts circulating on X (formerly Twitter), including one from a verified account, have claimed that the hacking of Geo News — along with interference in the Jazz Tamasha App transmission — was a sophisticated and coordinated cyber-attack allegedly carried out by Indian and Israeli hackers, specifically targeting the Pakistan Army and portraying it as the primary obstacle to forces seeking to destabilize the country.

Geo News is working round-the-clock with technical teams and satellite operators to restore normal broadcasting as quickly as possible and will keep viewers updated on developments.

This incident comes amid heightened regional tensions and follows several recent reports of cyber operations targeting Pakistani media and digital infrastructure.
