Gen Z Lawmaker Raisani Urges Peers to Engage System

QUETTA: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Member of the National Assembly Jamal Raisani, the youngest parliamentarian in the current assembly, has challenged the popular narrative framing the country’s challenges as a clash between the “Boomer system” and “Gen Z.”

In a detailed post on social media platform X, Raisani, who identifies as part of Generation Z himself, argued that while questioning authority is healthy, reducing Pakistan’s complex issues to a generational conflict is “analytically incorrect and contrary to facts.” He emphasized that neither the youth nor the state is a homogeneous group.

Raisani defended his choice to work within the existing political system, stating, “demands are met only when you are involved in the decision-making process.” As evidence of this approach, he highlighted his role in spearheading Balochistan’s first Youth Policy, which was formulated through direct feedback from young people to translate their sentiments into institutional reforms.

The lawmaker clarified that the role of youth is not to challenge the state’s sovereignty but to strengthen it. He asserted that institutions and the country remain strong only when citizens actively participate, engage, and drive reforms from within. Raisani concluded by calling for the energy of youth to be channeled into “practical engagement,” rather than being expended solely on expressions of anger or political revenge, positioning himself as a proponent of reform from within the halls of power.

Meanwhile in a significant upgrade to the city’s public transport network, Balochistan’s Transport Secretary Hayat Khan Kakar announced on Tuesday the imminent inauguration of the ‘People’s Train Service’ in Quetta alongside the rollout of new Green and Pink Buses.

The new train service is slated to operate between the Sariab and Kuchlak areas, aimed at providing substantial relief to daily commuters and improving the overall urban transport system. This railway initiative marks a major infrastructure development for the provincial capital.
