GB Assembly dissolved as constitutional term ends; Justice (Retd.) Yar Muhammad Named Caretaker Chief Minister

GILGIT: The Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly stood dissolved at midnight between November 24 and 25 after completing its full constitutional term, officially bringing an end to the tenure of Chief Minister Haji Gulbar Khan and his cabinet. 

The dissolution indicates the beginning of the caretaker setup that will oversee administrative affairs until the next elections are held. In this regard, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has approved the appointment of Justice (Retd.) Yar Muhammad as the caretaker chief minister of Gilgit-Baltistan.

In this sense, the Justice (Retd.) Yar Muhammad is scheduled to take the oath of office on Sunday morning. A retired judge of the Gilgit-Baltistan Chief Court, he is known for his professional integrity and calm administrative style. 

Originally from a Sunni family in Astore, he resides in Islamabad and is regarded with respect in legal and social circles of the region.

Moreover, he was born and raised in Astore, Yar Muhammad pursued his higher education in Islamic law. He graduated in 2008 with a degree in Sharia and Law from the International Islamic University, Islamabad. 

He also served as a representative of the Federal Public Service Commission, conducting interviews for the recruitment of civil judges a role that further strengthened his credentials within the judiciary.

In addition, his colleagues describe him as a disciplined and impartial professional, qualities that observers say will be essential in managing the caretaker administration at a sensitive time for regional governance. 

On the other hand, the by-elections were held in KP and Punjab of provincial and National Assembly seats.

Justice (Retd.) Yar Muhammad is married and a father of five, including three sons and two daughters. Those close to him say his strong family values and community ties have shaped his leadership style, which emphasizes fairness and responsibility.

Election plans are expected to be outlined in the coming weeks, with stakeholders anticipating a peaceful democratic process under the supervision of the new caretaker chief minister.
