Gadani ship-breaking yard to get Rs12b for green modernisation

ISLAMABAD: The federal government on Wednesday approved funds to modernise the country’s solitary ship-breaking yard located at Gadani, Balochistan.

As per details, Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Junaid Anwar Chaudhry, chaired a meeting on the Gadani ship-breaking yard project. He approved a Rs12 billion investment to modernize the yard.

The existing facility will be upgraded into a Model Green Yard. The new design will focus on advanced infrastructure, safety, and environmental protection.

The project includes building a 30-bed hospital, a 32-kilometer road, a school, and a public park. These additions aim to support the local community.

Authorities will also develop labour colonies and clean water facilities. These improvements will enhance living and working conditions for shipyard workers.

The minister said the modern yard will help stabilize annual steel production at 1.2 million tons. He added that it will make Pakistan a regional hub for green ship recycling.
