Balochistan government releases funds for university employees

QUETTA: The Balochistan government has released more than 800 million rupees to cover the salaries and pensions of employees working in the province’s public sector universities.

According to the Finance Department of Balochistan, a total grant of Rs. 801,954,226 has been issued under the Public Sector Universities Allowance.

This allocation will specifically be utilised for the payment of staff salaries and pensions.

Under this grant, University of Balochistan will receive more than Rs. 272.9 million, while Balochistan University of Information Technology, Engineering and Management Sciences (BUITEMS) has been allocated Rs. 170.1 million.

The University of Engineering and Technology, Khuzdar has been granted Rs. 101.7 million, and the Lasbela University of Agriculture, Water and Marine Sciences will receive Rs. 78.8 million.

Similarly, the University of Turbat has been allocated Rs. 41 million, University of Loralai Rs. 29.8 million, Mir Chakar Khan Rind University, Sibi Rs. 13.7 million, University of Gwadar Rs. 12.3 million, Bolan University of Medical and Health Sciences Rs. 11.5 million, and the University of Makran, Panjgur Rs. 9.1 million.

Additionally, the University of Balochistan’s Kharan Campus has been allocated Rs. 3.4 million.

The Finance Department clarified that this grant has been disbursed exclusively for meeting salary and pension obligations in these public sector universities.

This financial release by the Balochistan government comes as a major relief for public sector universities that have been struggling with financial shortfalls in recent years.

Universities across the province had raised concerns over delayed salaries and pensions, which created difficulties for teaching and non-teaching staff alike.

By issuing this grant, the provincial government has ensured stability in the academic environment, allowing institutions to focus on research and education rather than financial constraints.
