KARAK: At least four policemen were martyred in a gun attack in Pakistan’s northwestern Karak district early Tuesday, police said.
A Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police spokesperson confirmed the incident in a statement.
The spokesperson said a police patrol came under attack in the Gurguri area of Karak district.
The officers were deployed to protect an oil and gas company operating in the area.
Attackers also set the police vehicle on fire before fleeing the scene, police said.
No group immediately claimed responsibility for the assault.
Police said militants linked to India-backed proxy group Fitna al-Khawarij have been involved in recent attacks on police and other law enforcement agencies in the region.
The attack comes days after a local Taliban commander, identified as Kalim, was killed in a targeted strike near the same area.
