Two women among four killed for ‘honour’ in Balochistan

QUETTA: Four people, including two women, were killed in two separate incidents of so-called honor crimes in Balochistan over the past 12 hours.

The first incident occurred in Zehri tehsil of Khuzdar late Tuesday night. A man shot dead his wife on suspicion of illicit relations. He also killed another man accused of having links with her. The suspect fled. Levies registered a case.

The second killing took place in a village near Bhag in Bolan district. Ahmed Khan of the Hala tribe opened fire on his wife and another man, Muhammad Asif son of Fazil. Both died on the spot. The attacker escaped. Bhag Levies launched an investigation.

The Aurat Foundation and EVAWG Alliance condemned the murders. In a statement, they said the growing violence against women and girls in Balochistan violated basic human values and contradicted state claims of protection.

They noted that in recent weeks, cases from Khuzdar, Bhag, Mastung, Usta Muhammad, Sariab and Khrotabad had exposed a disturbing trend. Reported incidents included murders on suspicion of illicit relations, so-called honor killings, strangulation of young girls, sexual assault by fathers, and killings by close relatives.
