ISLAMABAD: Pakistani security forces repelled an overnight infiltration attempt by Tehreek-e-Taliban Afghanistan (TTA) fighters in the Thall sector along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, officials said.
The incident occurred between the night of March 2 and 3, when militants attempted to cross into Pakistani territory. Troops responded by opening fire with all available weapons on TTA positions.
Early Tuesday, Pakistani forces crossed the border and seized the post from which the fire had originated. Soldiers raised the Pakistani flag over the captured position, officials said.
Forces also destroyed three additional nearby TTA posts with explosives, rendering them inoperable.
Five militants were killed in the operation, while others fled the area, leaving behind the bodies of their dead, security sources said.
