Bread becomes a luxury: Flour prices soar to record high in Chaman

CHAMAN: The cost of flour in Chaman district and souring areas soured to their highest level of the year, in the past ten days, the price of a 100-kg flour has increased by Rs 2,000.

According to the Chaman Dealers Association, the price of flour from Punjab mills has risen from Rs. 6,900 to Rs. 8,900 per 100-kg bag. Similarly, locally produced fine flour, which was previously available for Rs. 7,200, is now being sold for Rs. 9,150.

Dealers’ association said that the surge in prices to various factors including torrential rains in Sindh and Punjab, rising wheat prices, and what they describe as arbitrary hikes by mill owners.

Meanwhile, the Flour Mills Association confirmed that this trend is not limited to Chaman alone but is being observed throughout the province. If the pattern continues, further price hikes are expected before the end of August.
