Flood causes severe damage to gas pipeline in Mach, gas supply suspended

QUETTA: Deputy General Manager Corporate Communications and Spokesperson Sui Southern Gas Company Salman Ahmed Siddiqui has said that the 4-inch diameter gas pipeline going from SMS Mach to TBS in Mach area of Balochistan was severely damaged due to a sudden flood relay, on Sunday night.

He informed that as a precautionary measure, gas supply has been suspended at both SMS and TBS locations at around 8:30 pm on Sunday night, so that any possible accident can be avoided and operational safety can be ensured. The company apologizes for the inconvenience faced by Mach consumers in this regard.

He further said that soon the gas supply will be restored in the area. He urged the Mach consumers to cooperate with the officials in this regard. Authorities are monitoring the situation closely and are expected to begin restoration work once the river’s water level returns to safe levels.

National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) said that at least 13 more people succumbed to rain-flood-related accidents on Sunday across country during the last 24 hours as heavy monsoons continue to lash parts of Pakistan.

According to NDMA, since June 26 at least 216 people were killed in rain-flood related incidents across the country.

NDMA confirmed that twelve deaths were reported in Punjab and one in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Among the victims were four children and three women.

Punjab has reported 135 deaths, followed by 42 in KP, 21 in Sindh, 16 in Balochistan, and one each in Islamabad and Azad Kashmir.
