KARACHI: A Serene Air flight from Jeddah to Lahore made an emergency landing at Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport on Monday morning after developing a technical fault, aviation officials said.
The aircraft’s captain reported a mid-flight malfunction and requested clearance from Karachi Air Traffic Control for an emergency landing. Fire tenders and rescue vehicles stood on standby as the plane, carrying more than 200 passengers—most of them Umrah pilgrims—touched down safely.
Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) officials confirmed that no passengers sustained injuries. Initial inspection detected a fuel leakage, prompting engineers from both CAA and Serene Air to begin repairs.
“Swift action by the crew and the pilot’s decision to divert prevented a possible mishap,” a CAA official said. An airline engineer added that such incidents, while rare, can occur during the heavy operational load of peak Umrah season.
Families of passengers waiting in Lahore expressed concern after news of the emergency landing spread.
