Death toll from rains, flash floods in Balochistan jumps to 22: PDMA

QUETTA: The death toll from torrential rains and flash floods in Balochistan has risen to 22, according to a latest report issued by the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) on Tuesday.

The report stated that torrential downpours and floods claimed 22 lives and left 11 others injured across several districts. The fatalities occurred due to flash floods, roof collapses, lightning strikes, and electrocution.

Two children died of electric shocks in Musakhail and Kohlu, while three women drowned in a dam in Ziarat. In Lasbela and Loralai, two people were killed when boundary walls collapsed. Four people lost their lives after a vehicle was swept away by floodwaters in Zhob.

In Khuzdar, six people died in incidents of wall collapse and flash floods. Two children were killed in Harnai when a roof gave way, while four young girls drowned in floodwaters in Duki.

The PDMA report also confirmed heavy material losses. At least 357 solar panels were destroyed, four government buildings were damaged, and 83 houses were affected — 69 partially damaged and 14 completely demolished.

The authority warned that casualties and damages may increase as assessments continue, and said relief operations have been mobilized across the affected districts.
