Five killed, 10 injured in gas cylinder explosion in Islamabad

ISLAMABAD: There are five people lost their lives and 10 others sustained injuries following a gas cylinder explosion in Islamabad’s G-7/2 sector, authorities confirmed.

The incident caused significant damage to multiple residential structures and prompted an immediate emergency response from rescue and medical teams.

The explosion was triggered by a gas leakage, which led to a powerful blast inside one of the houses in the area, as per the Additional Deputy Commissioner. The force of the explosion damaged nearby homes, shattered windows, and caused parts of several buildings to collapse, creating panic among residents of the neighborhood.

Furthermore, the rescue workers evacuated 15 people from the affected houses and surrounding structures. Despite swift rescue efforts, five of the injured later succumbed to their injuries.

The ADC confirmed that the remaining injured individuals were immediately shifted to nearby hospitals for urgent medical care. Following the incident, the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) was placed on high alert to manage the emergency situation.

In such a scenario, the medical officials stated that several of the injured suffered burns and trauma caused by falling debris. In such a case, the authorities also confirmed that all individuals who were feared trapped under the rubble have been successfully rescued.

The investigation has been launched to determine the exact cause of the gas leakage and the circumstances that led to the explosion.

The local administration officials urged residents to ensure proper handling and regular inspection of gas cylinders and related equipment to prevent similar incidents. The government has expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and assured full support to the injured and affected residents.
