Police repel terrorist attack on checkpost in Bannu

BANNU: Police successfully repelled coordinated terrorist attacks on multiple security installations in the Bannu and Karak districts on Wednesday, resulting in the deaths of three assailants.

According to Regional Police Officer (RPO) Bannu, Sajjad Khan, a heavily armed group of terrorists from Fitna Al Khwarij first launched an attack on the Meryan Police Station in Bannu. Shortly after, a second, more intense assault targeted the Mazang checkpoint in the same district.

RPO Khan reported that a fierce hour-long exchange of fire ensued at the Mazang checkpoint. Police forces effectively countered the attacks, killing three terrorists and injuring four others. The remaining attackers were forced to retreat, abandoning their wounded comrades.

Three police officials sustained minor injuries during the confrontations. In a separate but related incident, terrorists also attacked the Gurguri Police Station in Karak district. There, police officials offered stiff resistance, forcing the militants to retreat without achieving their objectives.

The operations mark a significant failure for the terrorist groups’ coordinated plans.
