Ali Akbar Appointed First Senior Superintendent as Islamabad Model Jail Nears Operational Phase

ISLAMABAD: The long-awaited establishment of the Islamabad Model Jail, as Ali Akbar has been appointed the facility’s first Senior Superintendent.

Ali Akbar met with Inspector General (IG) Islamabad Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi in a special session to discuss the immediate operational requirements of the new prison.

During the meeting, both the IG Prisons and IG Islamabad emphasized the need to make the Model Jail functional as soon as possible.

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has directed authorities to accelerate progress on the project, noting that the facility is expected to operate in line with modern correctional standards.

The minister has stressed that the jail should indicate contemporary reforms and improved management practices.

The vision behind the Islamabad Model Jail is rooted in a reformative and humane correctional philosophy, guided by the principle:

“A saint has a past and a sinner has a future.”

The model facility aims to offer improved living conditions, rehabilitation programs, and a structured environment to support inmates’ reintegration into society.

However, a spokesperson for the Islamabad Police said that once the jail becomes fully operational, all prisoners and suspects involved in Islamabad-based cases will be housed within the new facility.

This development is expected to eliminate the long-standing practice of sending detainees to prisons in other districts, improving administrative efficiency and reducing logistical complications for law enforcement agencies.

So far, the establishment of the Islamabad Model Jail has been under consideration for several years, with officials describing the current progress as a “major breakthrough” toward strengthening the capital’s correctional infrastructure.

Meanwhile, work is expected to continue on an expedited schedule, with further updates anticipated in the coming weeks as the facility moves closer to its official opening.
