Fire erupts on the mountains in Kohlu

QUETTA: The fire erupts across the mountain areas of Kohlu. The fire fighters have started the rescue of work.

According to PDMA officials, a sudden wildfire erupted on Tuesday in the mountainous forest region of Jandaran, located in Balochistan’s Kohlu district.

The flames rapidly expanded, engulfing a large area and posing a serious threat to nearby settlements. Upon receiving the alert, 70 Levies personnel were immediately dispatched to the site and are currently engaged in firefighting efforts.

Authorities confirmed that operations are still underway to bring the situation under control.

Forest fires in Balochistan represent a growing environmental challenge with serious biodiversity, economic and human-safety implications.

The province’s rugged terrain, dry climate and vast stretches of forest and scrubland make it especially vulnerable to uncontrolled wildfires.

Many of these incidents originate in remote mountainous areas — such as the recent outbreak in the Jandaran mountains of Kohlu district — where fires can spread rapidly and be difficult to contain.

The speed of spread is often accelerated by strong winds, steep slopes and limited access for firefighting equipment.

Once ignited, fires threaten not only forest ecosystems — including rare flora and fauna — but also local communities whose livelihoods depend on natural resources.

Furthermore, the post-fire effects often include soil erosion, watershed damage and increased risk of flash flooding.

Responding to these emergencies requires coordinated efforts by provincial disaster-management authorities, firefighting forces, local levies and community volunteers.

Early detection, rapid deployment of manpower and equipment, and community awareness are key to limiting damage.

Given the frequency of such events and their long-term impacts, forest-fire management must become a core component of environmental policy in Balochistan — encompassing prevention, readiness, response
