FIR registered against 22 in honour killing video case

QUETTA: Police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) against over 20 individuals after a disturbing video went viral on social media showing a man and a woman being shot and killed in the name of so-called honour.

The couple had married against their family’s wishes.

The gruesome incident occurred in the Sangdi-Degari Margat area near Quetta, and the video has since sparked widespread outrage and fear among the public.

The case has been registered under the Anti-Terrorism Act at the Hana Orak Police Station in response to the complaint of Station House Officer (SHO) Naveed Akhtar after a viral video showed the cold-blooded murder of a woman, Bano Bibi, and a man, Ehsanullah.

According to the police, the video showed both victims being taken to a remote location where they were shot dead. Preliminary investigations revealed the incident occurred three days before Eid-ul-Adha.

The SHO, along with police personnel, visited the crime scene and gathered information. Witnesses confirmed that before the execution, the victims were taken to tribal elder Sardar Sherbaz Khan, who allegedly held a Jirga (tribal court) and declared both guilty of ‘Karo Kari’ (a tribal term for illicit relations). Following the so-called verdict, the couple was taken by vehicle to Sangdi-Degari Margat and executed.

The accused reportedly filmed the killing and later circulated the video on social media, sparking panic and condemnation across the province.

Police have registered a case under Section 302 (premeditated murder), the Anti-Terrorism Act, and other relevant provisions. Named in the FIR are Shah Wazir Jalal, Tikri Munir, Bakhtiar, Malik Amir, Ajab Khan, Jan Muhammad, Bashir Ahmed, and 15 unidentified individuals. All suspects are accused of direct involvement in the planning and execution of the victims.
