ISLAMABAD: The federal government is set to issue the official notification for Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir’s appointment as the country’s first Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) once Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif returns to the country from abroad, Federal Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar said on Monday.
Federal Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar told reporters that the CDF notification “will be issued soon.” He added that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif was out of the country and the process would be completed upon his return.
“This work falls under the Defence Ministry, and it will be done,” Tarar said. “It’s possible the file has already been processed.”
The appointment follows the 27th constitutional amendment, which created the new CDF position under Article 243 of the Constitution. The amendment sets the CDF’s tenure at five years.
Meanwhile, Federal Railways Minister Hanif Abbasi praised Munir’s leadership, saying, “Field Marshal Asim Munir has brought Pakistan unmatched respect.” He added that Munir had acted within his limits while downing Indian aircraft, an achievement recognized internationally.

Abbasi also criticized the opposition, saying, “PTI’s situation is chaotic. We have seen many jails, but never have we conspired against the country.”
The government has not yet formally released Munir’s appointment notification, fueling speculation in political and military circles.
