Field Marshal visits Bannu to review counterterrorism operations

BANNU: Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir visited Bannu district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to review ongoing counterterrorism operations, security sources said Saturday.

Meanwhile, the Prime Minister of Pakistan Shehbaz Sharif is also visiting Bannu to join Field Marshal to review the law and order situation in the region and counterterrorism operations, security officials say.

During the visit, both leaders will review the progress of operations against militant groups in the region. Security sources said the meeting between the military and political leadership is expected to produce key decisions on counterterrorism strategy.

Earlier today, the Pakistan Army media affairs wing, the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), said in a statement that it killed 35 militants in two separate operations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa between September 10 and 13, the military said Saturday.

In Bajaur district, troops launched an intelligence-based operation after reports of militant presence. Security forces engaged the hideout and, after an intense exchange of fire, killed 22 fighters linked to Indian-backed networks.
