RAWALPINDI: Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir met a delegation of religious scholars to discuss national security, with a focus on promoting unity, tolerance and social cohesion, the military said.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Field Marshal held talks with Shia clerics and stressed the need to counter misinformation, sectarianism and what he described as external conspiracies.
He reiterated Pakistan’s firm stance that Afghan soil must not be used for terrorism, referring to ongoing security efforts under Operation Ghazab-ul-Haq.
At the meeting, participants called on the Afghan Taliban to prevent the use of their territory for attacks against Pakistan. Munir vowed to continue intelligence-based operations against militants and their networks.
The Chief of Army Staff also highlighted Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts to ease regional tensions. He said religious sentiments would not be allowed to incite violence and warned that unrest in other countries would not be permitted to trigger violence inside Pakistan.
CDF emphasised that clerics can play a vital role in fostering national unity, tolerance and harmony. He urged them to actively counter misinformation, sectarian narratives and external influence, and to support efforts against extremism.
He reiterated that Pakistan would not tolerate the use of Afghan territory for terrorism against its people and called on Afghan authorities to take decisive action.
