ISLAMABAD: Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir met President Arif Ali Zardari at the President House on Wednesday.
The meeting came amid recent clashes along the Pak-Afghan border following Pakistan’s last week reported strikes on hideouts of the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and Indian-backed Afghan Taliban in Kabul and Paktika.
The Army Chief briefed the President on the country’s internal and external security situation. He highlighted the Afghan Taliban’s provocative actions and detailed Pakistan Army’s effective and timely responses.
President Zardari, who is the supreme commander of armed forces, expressed full confidence in the army’s capabilities, bravery, and readiness. He praised the armed forces’ professional role in defending Pakistan’s borders and reaffirmed the nation’s commitment to safeguarding sovereignty and territorial integrity.
On October 10, the Afghan Taliban and Fitna al-Khawarij (TTP) attacked Pakistani military checkposts in Kurram, Khyber, Bajaur, and Chitral. Pakistan Army retaliated strongly, killing over 200 militants.
Late Tuesday, Taliban again attacked Pakistani checkposts in Kurram. Pakistan Army destroyed eight frontline posts and six tanks. In the morning, militants attacked four locations in Spin Boldak, Afghanistan, but Pakistan forces repulsed them, killing 15–20 Taliban and destroying several posts, according to ISPR. Security forces also released a video showing destroyed tanks and militant positions.
Security sources said that after heavy losses, Taliban authorities requested Pakistan to halt retaliatory strikes.
