Field Marshal Asim Munir to remain COAS until Nov 2027: Rana Sanaullah

Asim Munir to remain COAS until Nov 2027

ISLAMABAD : In a televised interview, senior PML-N leader Rana Sanaullah stated that Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir would retain his position until November 2027, praising his achievements and suggesting he is “worthy of an extension.”

Speaking on SAMAA’s ‘Nadeem Malik Live’, Sanaullah defended the decision, noting that extensions are provided for in the law and have been granted four times in the past.

The former minister claimed all current decisions are made with the support of party leader Nawaz Sharif and predicted the current government assembly would complete its full term, lasting until 2029.

In a significant shift, Sanaullah extended an offer for dialogue to the imprisoned founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), stating, “if the founder wants to do politics in jail or outside, we have an offer for talks.”

He contrasted this by accusing the PTI founder of seeking “civil war,” specifically citing the events of May 9th, which he labeled not a protest but an “attempt at civil war.”

On fiscal matters, Sanaullah ruled out the creation of new provinces but confirmed the government is considering changes to the National Finance Commission (NFC) award. He argued the federation is in financial difficulty while provinces have greater capacity, adding that any resolution would be sought through consensus.
