ISLAMABAD : A high-stakes diplomatic breakthrough between the United States and Iran appears imminent, with a deal expected to be closed as early as tonight, according to a senior regional source who spoke to CNN. The same source confirmed that the critical discussions are being steered directly by Pakistan’s army chief, Field Marshal Asim Munir.
Citing the same regional source, CNN reported that “some good news is expected from both sides soon,” with the potential for an agreement to be finalized within hours. The source further emphasized that the negotiations are being directly guided by Pakistan’s top military commander, Field Marshal Asim Munir.
The White House has also acknowledged the ongoing diplomatic push. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed that President Donald Trump has been made aware of Pakistan’s ceasefire proposal. “The president has been made aware of the proposal, and a response will come,” Leavitt said in a statement.
The prospect of a deal has already had a tangible impact on global markets. Oil prices are falling on the news, while US stock market futures have turned positive, reflecting investor optimism over a potential de-escalation of the conflict.
This development comes after Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif formally requested President Trump to extend his deadline for Iran by two weeks and urged all warring parties to observe a ceasefire to allow diplomacy to succeed. However, the latest reports point to Field Marshal Munir as the key figure directly steering the negotiations between Washington and Tehran.
