CHAMAN: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has intensified its nationwide crackdown on illegal currency exchange and hawala/hundi operations across the country.
As part of this ongoing campaign initiated on directives of FIA Director General Rafat Mukhtar Raja, FIA’s Balochistan Zone conducted a major operation in Chaman and apprehended a key suspect involved in unauthorized foreign currency trading.
According to the FIA spokesperson, the agency’s Composite Circle Chaman arrested the suspect, identified as Abdul Ahad, during a targeted raid. A substantial quantity of foreign currency was recovered from his possession, including:
300,000 Saudi Riyals
2,900 US Dollars
The recovered currency has an estimated value of over Rs 23.4 million in Pakistani rupees.
During the operation, officials also seized critical evidence linked to illegal currency exchange networks. The suspect failed to provide any satisfactory explanation regarding the origin or purpose of the foreign currency.
FIA has lodged a formal case against Abdul Ahad and launched a deeper investigation to determine whether he is part of a broader hawala/hundi or money laundering network. Authorities are also probing his possible connections with other individuals involved in cross-border currency smuggling.
The FIA emphasized that this operation is part of a wider national effort to curb economic crimes and protect Pakistan’s financial system from illicit channels. The agency reiterated its commitment to taking decisive action against elements undermining the economy through illegal financial practices.
