FIA busts Hawala-Hundi gang in Quetta, Gwadar raids

QUETTA: On the instructions of the Director General of FIA, major operations are underway against Hawala Hundi and illegal currency exchange. FIA Commercial Banking Circle Quetta and Composite Circle Gwadar arrested 4 suspects during a joint operation.

According to an FIA spokesperson, the arrested persons include Haji Sharif, Abdul Rehman, Riaz and Nazir Ahmed, who were arrested from different areas of Quetta and Gwadar.

The spokesperson said that a large amount of domestic and foreign currency was recovered from the possession of the suspects, including:

  • 1072 US dollars
  • 5770 Afghanis
  • 2485 Turkish Lira
  • 9 million Indonesian rupiah
  • 5.3 million Iranian Rials
  • 2.7 million Pakistani rupees

In addition, more than 23 checkbooks, mobile phones and other records were also recovered.

Further investigation revealed that the accused were conducting illegal currency exchange business without a license and that hundreds of millions of rupees of hawala hundi transactions had been made from their bank accounts.

According to the spokesperson, the accused could not satisfy the authorities regarding the recovered currency, on which a case has been registered against them and an investigation has been initiated. FIA teams are conducting further raids to arrest other accomplices of the accused
