DERA BUGTI: The government has announced the establishment of a Fertilizer City in Balochistan, aimed at harnessing the province’s untapped natural resources. The project will utilize the low British Thermal Unit (BTU) reserves found in Dera Bugti, indicating an important move toward self-reliance and regional empowerment.
The initiative is being lauded as a fulfillment of Balochistan’s constitutional rights enshrined in the 18th Amendment, which guarantees provincial autonomy over natural resources.
Furthermore, Dera Bugti, rich in natural gas reserves, has long remained underutilized due to technological and political constraints. However, the availability of low BTU gas a variant previously considered uneconomical is now being leveraged through modern technology to power fertilizer production facilities.
In this sense, the project has also drawn praise from local tribal leaders, who have expressed hope that this step will bring sustainable development, education, and infrastructure to the region.
