Federal Govt announces advance salary, pension payments for Christian Employees Ahead of Christmas

ISLAMABAD: The federal government has announced the advance payment of salaries and pensions for Christian federal employees and pensioners to facilitate preparations for Christmas and provide financial relief ahead of the religious festival.

In this regard, the payments will be released on December 22. The decision applies to all eligible Christian employees and pensioners serving in federal institutions. The move aims to allow members of the Christian community to manage their religious celebrations with greater ease and convenience.

Furthermore, the Ministry of Finance has directed the Islamabad Controller General of Accounts to make the necessary arrangements to ensure the timely disbursement of the advance payments.

Meanwhile, Christian families have expressed concerns over rising prices of essential items linked to Christmas celebrations. The prices of Christmas tree decorations, lights and related accessories in open markets have reportedly increased by 50 to 70 per cent compared to last year.

The shoppers have also noted a sharp rise in the cost of clothing, footwear and gifts for children, men and women, with prices in some cases doubling from the previous year.

However, several Christian leaders and clergy have appealed to the federal and provincial governments for additional support. Pastor Qaiser Masih, Pastor Asif Masih, Father Ilyas Masih and central leader Rashid Chauhan have called for the provision of special Christmas grants for Christian employees through Baitul Mal or Zakat funds.

They have also urged the authorities to announce Christmas bonuses and honoraria for Christian workers to help them meet festive expenses. So far, Churches have begun decorating, repainting and undertaking renovation work, while Christian homes and colonies are setting up Christmas trees.

In addition, open markets, commercial centres and bazaars are witnessing increased activity as families purchase decorations and other festive items. Additionally, CCTV cameras and walk-through gates are being installed at churches, while security checks have been made mandatory.

Lady police officers will also be deployed. Enhanced security will be provided on Christmas Eve, December 24, and Christmas Day, December 25, to ensure the safety of worshippers and the wider community.
