Federal Constitutional Court preparations accelerate in Islamabad

ISLAMABAD: The preparations for the establishment of the Federal Constitutional Court in the capital are progressing steadily, with new details emerging about the ongoing arrangements.

The administration of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) has become fully active in facilitating the operationalization of the new court.

In this regard, the four courtrooms are currently being prepared on the third floor of the IHC building, indicating a vital initiative toward making the Federal Constitutional Court functional.

In this sense, the offices of the Advocate General and the Attorney General have been vacated to create space for the new judicial setup.

In addition, efforts are underway to vacate Courtroom No. 2 of Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani.

Once this process is complete, the courtrooms of Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani and Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb will be shifted to new locations within the building to accommodate the reorganization.

Furthermore, the officials familiar with the developments indicated that Courtroom No. 1 of the new Federal Constitutional Court is expected to be assigned to Chief Justice Aminuddin Khan, who will preside over proceedings there.

Additionally, courtroom No. 2 is likely to house the court of Chief Justice Sarfraz Dogar, although final decisions are still being considered.

Moreover, the establishment of the Federal Constitutional Court indicates an important change in the country’s judicial framework, in order to strengthen constitutional interpretation and ensure timely resolution of constitutional matters.

However, administrative adjustments within the Islamabad High Court highlight the scale of the transition, as existing courtrooms and offices are being reorganized to meet the requirements of the new institution.

So far, the activation of the Federal Constitutional Court is anticipated to increase the efficiency of the judicial system and provide a specialized forum for constitutional matters, contributing to improved governance and legal clarity across the country.
