FC Headquarters Attackers were Afghan Nationals: KP Police Chief

PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Inspector General of Police Zulfiqar Hameed said on Tuesday that available evidence shows the attackers involved in the assault on the FC headquarters were Afghan nationals.

Speaking to reporters, the IG said three suicide attackers arrived at the site. Security forces killed them on the spot and repelled the attack. He said fingerprints had been sent to NADRA for verification, and CCTV footage from across the city was being collected.

He said initial evidence “strongly suggests” that the terrorists were Afghans. CTD and special teams were investigating the incident. Police had seized the motorcycle used by the attackers and lifted fingerprints from it.

The IG said attacks had increased this year but were successfully thwarted. He added that various districts were being equipped with modern weapons. Terrorist tactics had changed, he said, but police response had also improved. Anti-drone systems and other advanced technologies were being provided to the force, and work was under way to supply bulletproof vehicles from station level to senior officers.

Sharing more details of the incident, he said investigators were trying to determine how the attackers entered Peshawar. Police had identified the location where the terrorists spent the night before the attack. No facilitators had been arrested so far, he added.
