QUETTA: Security forces have foiled a militant attack on a security post along the N-85 highway in Panjgur district of Balochistan, killing several attackers, according to a security statement issued on Saturday.
The attack took place on Aug. 22 when militants affiliated with Fitna al-Hindustan (FAH) targeted the security post.
Security forces responded immediately and repelled the assault, inflicting heavy losses on the attackers.
The failed attack came as security forces continued operations against militant networks across Balochistan.
In recent intelligence-based operations in Mastung, Mach, Khuzdar and Panjgur, security forces and police killed 49 militants in 10 operations, including 37 FAH members, according to the statement.
The statement said the militants had attempted to spread fear among local communities. However, security forces decisively thwarted the attack.
One soldier was killed while defending the post and confronting the attackers, the statement said.
Meanwhile, security forces reaffirmed their commitment to dismantling militant networks and protecting civilians.
They also vowed to deny FAH militants space to operate in Panjgur and elsewhere in Balochistan.
