LAHORE: Former Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Central Secretary Information Ahmad Jawad was arrested in the federal capital on Wednesday.
He was taken into custody by the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA).
Ahmad Jawad previously served as PTI’s Central Secretary Information before his party membership was revoked over allegations against the leadership.
Later, he joined the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and was appointed as focal person to then Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Digital Media and Technologies during the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) government.
He resigned from the position in October 2022, citing “constraints of the prime minister” as the reason for stepping down. In his resignation, he stated that he joined the PML-N when it was in opposition and weak and was leaving it when it was in power.
Earlier this week, the former Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Fawad Chaudhry had urged both the government and the opposition to take conciliatory steps to reduce the growing political tension in the country.
He said that for national stability, the PTI should take a step back while the government should take a step forward to create an environment conducive to dialogue.
Furthermore, Chaudhry said that ongoing political polarization had overshadowed Pakistan’s recent international achievements.
He further added that efforts were underway to create an atmosphere in which meaningful dialogue could begin between political stakeholders.
Moreover, Chaudhry revealed that in the coming week, meetings were scheduled with senior ministers of the Pakistan Muslim League (N) and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman.
