The bodies of eight Pakistani nationals who were brutally murdered in Iran have been repatriated to Pakistan.
The tragic incident took place on April 12 in the Mehrestan area of Iran’s southeastern Sistan province, where unidentified gunmen stormed a workshop and opened fire on the Pakistani workers, killing all eight.
Seven of the victims hailed from Khanqah Sharif in Bahawalpur, while one belonged to Shujabad in Multan. According to officials, all of the deceased were motor mechanics employed at a local workshop in Mehrestan.
Late Wednesday night, the bodies were transported via a special flight from Iran to Islamabad and subsequently to Bahawalpur. From there, ambulances carried the bodies to the victims’ respective hometowns for burial.
Pakistan’s Ambassador to Iran confirmed the identities of the deceased as Muhammad Amir, Muhammad Dilshad, Muhammad Nasir, Malik Jamshed, Muhammad Danish, Muhammad Naeem, Ghulam Jaffar, and Muhammad Khalid.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had earlier expressed profound sorrow and concern over the heinous act and called upon the Iranian authorities to swiftly apprehend and punish those responsible.
In response, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Nasser Kanaani strongly condemned the attack, labeling it a criminal act that violated Islamic values, legal principles, and human ethics. He assured that Iran would spare no effort in identifying and bringing the perpetrators to justice.
