ECP orders to ensure security arrangements for election

QUETTA: The Election Commission (ECP) of Pakistan has given an advisory to the Balochistan government to ensure fool-proof security arrangements for the local government election in Quetta.

According to the sources, a major development has been witnessed amid the local government election in Quetta, the provincial capital of Balochistan.

The Secretary Election Commission Umar Hameed Khan has written a letter to the Chief Secretary Balochistan government Shakeel Qadir and had urged the Balochistan Government to make fool-proof security arrangements for the local government election and make a friendly environment for the political parties as well as the candidates.

The Election Commission has ordered to implement the orders and the get the electoral proceedings done according to the schedule.

The Election Commission has also given the directives to the Returning Officers.

The local government election in Quetta will be held on 28th December 2025.

The election commission had issued the schedule of the local government election on the 3rd November.

Candidates for the local body elections in Quetta will be able to submit their nomination papers to the respective returning officers from November 13 to 17, while the initial list of candidates will be released on November 18.

The scrutiny of nomination papers will take place from November 19 to 24.

Appeals against the decisions of the returning officers—regarding the approval or rejection of nomination papers—can be filed with the Election Tribunal until November 28, which will issue its rulings on these appeals by December 3.

The revised list of candidates will be issued on December 4, while the final list and the last date for withdrawal of nomination papers will be December 5.

Election symbols will be allotted on December 6, and polling will be held on Sunday, December 28, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The official results are expected to be announced by December 31.

The Election Commission has instructed the Government of Balochistan to ensure foolproof security arrangements for the peaceful, transparent, and fair conduct of the local body elections in Quetta district.
