ISLAMABAD: A high-level government meeting has greenlit several major development initiatives for Balochistan, with a significant focus on improving education and transport infrastructure.
The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC), which decides on the country’s most important economic projects, convened virtually. The meeting was chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar and included Balochistan’s Provincial Minister for Irrigation, Mir Muhammad Sadiq Umrani.
The committee reviewed the progress and spending on various ongoing federal projects. A key education plan for Balochistan, named “Access and Delivery of Quality Education,” was a primary topic of discussion. Officials outlined that this five-year programme will focus on four main areas: Early Childhood Education, Primary Education, Public-Private Partnerships, and an Emergency Section.
The project is designed to give more children in the province access to improved schooling, which aims to boost learning opportunities and increase Balochistan’s overall literacy rate.

In a significant move for the region’s infrastructure, ECNEC also approved the construction of two major road schemes: a 103-kilometre route from Zhob to Mehktar and Margha Kabzai, and a 105-kilometre road connecting Duki and Chamalang. A revised version of the Balochistan Livelihood and Internship Project was also given the go-ahead.
The council stressed that all projects must be finished on schedule and to a high standard of quality.
