Pakistan must complete US unfinished war on terror in Afghanistan: Qamar Cheema

ISLAMABAD: National Security Affairs Expert Dr. Qamar Cheema has issued a stark warning that the terrorists currently sheltered in Afghanistan pose a direct and severe threat not only to Pakistan but to the entire international community .

In a hard-hitting statement to Geo News, Dr. Cheema drew a dire comparison, stating that Afghanistan is as dangerous today as it was in 2002. He asserted that the Afghan Taliban regime continues to provide support and sanctuary to designated terrorist organizations, specifically naming Al-Qaeda and the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) . According to the security analyst, this collaboration has enabled these groups to operate with impunity, effectively turning Afghanistan into a launchpad for regional instability.

Dr. Cheema explained that the Afghan Taliban have deliberately “turned terrorists towards Pakistan,” exacerbating cross-border attacks. However, he emphasized that the demand for decisive action against these militant safe havens is not Pakistan’s alone. He pointed to a growing consensus among key regional and global players, noting that Iran, Tajikistan, Russia, and China are also calling for an end to the use of Afghan territory for exporting terrorism . This sentiment was recently echoed in the 7th Moscow Format meeting and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) gatherings, where member states expressed deep concern over terrorist groups exploiting Afghan soil .
