WASHINGTON: In a rare presidential nod to the sport of cricket,U.S. President Donald Trump has publicly voiced his support for the American national team competing in the ongoing ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in India.
Trump took to his social media platform, Truth Social, to acknowledge the tournament and offer his encouragement. “I have come to know that the Cricket World Cup is underway in India,” he stated in his post, extending his best wishes to Team USA. He added a vote of confidence, saying, “our team is very strong.”
This unexpected endorsement from a U.S. president highlights the growing profile of cricket in the United States, fueled by the team’s historic participation in a major global tournament hosted on American soil earlier in the event. The current stage in India marks a significant moment for the developing squad.
The support comes despite the U.S. team’s recent 29-run loss to tournament favorites India in their opening Group A match. Co-hosted by the USA and the West Indies, this World Cup has already seen the American team create major upsets, including a landmark victory over Pakistan, signaling their emerging status in the sport.
