Divide Quetta into four districts, BAP Senator urges

QUETTA: Senator Naseebullah Khan Bazai, Senior Vice President of the Balochistan Awami Party BAP, has proposed the division of Quetta into four separate districts.

He stated that the move is necessary to manage the city’s rapidly growing population and increasing public needs. In a statement issued on Thursday,  Senator Bazai emphasized that the proposal is based purely on administrative grounds and is not intended to create any linguistic or ethnic division.

He argued that splitting the provincial capital into smaller administrative units would make governance more effective, organized, and people-friendly. Senator Bazai described the plan as a positive, constructive, and far-sighted step towards better governance, faster service delivery, and a stronger security system.

He highlighted that the suburbs and outlying areas of Quetta, which he estimates constitute 50 to 60 percent of the total population, are currently deprived of basic amenities like health, education, gas, electricity, and clean water. He believes the reform would bring organized development to these areas and help reduce urban-rural disparity.

Senator Bazai has formally requested Commander 12 Corps Lieutenant Rahat Naseem, Governor Sheikh Jafar Khan Mandokhel, and Chief Minister Mir Sarfaraz Ahmed Bugti to seriously consider the proposal. He urged them to issue instructions to relevant institutions for practical steps, stating that the initiative is in the larger interest of the province, public security, and sustainable development.

He expressed confidence that with mutual consultation and strong determination, this initiative would prove to be a milestone in making Quetta a peaceful, organized, and developed city. “It is the need of the hour that we take such decisions today, keeping in mind the needs of the future,” he said
