Fact check: RAW-backed disinformation campaign on Balochistan exposed

QUETTA: A post circulating by mostly Indian based accounts show an image of children saluting the Indian Proxy and internationally designated terrorist group Balochistan Liberation Army flag۔

Claim:
A tweet from the X (formerly Twitter) account @miryar_baloch shows an image of children in Balochistan with the implication that they are participating in an anti-Pakistan protest. The post aligns with narratives pushed by India-linked propaganda accounts, suggesting widespread rebellion in the province.

Fact:
In response to the claims, the Burak Digital Fact Check wing, double checked the claim found the claim false. The image used in the tweet has been digitally manipulated. The original photograph dates back to 2009 and was taken in Khuzdar, Balochistan, showing local schoolchildren saluting the Pakistani flag during a national ceremony. In the doctored version circulated by @miryar_baloch and other similar accounts, the Pakistani flag was removed or replaced, and a misleading caption was added to falsely portray anti-state sentiment among the youth.

Evidence:

  • A reverse image search reveals that the original photograph was published in pro-state media in 2009 to highlight patriotism among Baloch students.
  • Fact-checking outlet Burak Fact Check identified multiple accounts spreading this altered version, many of which have patterns consistent with coordinated disinformation, allegedly linked to India’s intelligence agency RAW.

Intent:
This disinformation effort is part of a broader strategy to malign Pakistan internationally by fabricating unrest in Balochistan. It echoes other recent attempts to portray the province as seeking secession, often relying on fake accounts and manipulated visuals.

Conclusion:
The viral image is not evidence of anti-Pakistan protests in Balochistan. Instead, it is a clear case of the Indian Propagnada war against Pakistan, even exosed by the world organisations at verious occasions.
