Digitisation of economy to Boost Efficiency, Governance: PM Shehbaz

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed all provincial governments, including those of Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir, to fully cooperate with the federal government in advancing the country’s digitisation drive and transitioning to a cashless economy.

While chairing a weekly review meeting on the digital and cashless economy in Islamabad, the Prime Minister emphasised the need to accelerate the federal government’s digitisation plan through close coordination with provincial governments and their institutions. He stressed achieving the plan’s objectives within the designated timeframe.

He also instructed authorities to make regular and meaningful consultation with all stakeholders a permanent feature of the digitization strategy.

The Prime Minister noted that a digitised economy will promote transparency and, above all, offer convenience to the public without imposing additional costs. He added that the government is actively promoting digital payments and fund transfers through supportive policy measures.

Officials briefed the Prime Minister on the progress made so far. They informed him that the government has established the National Digital Commission and the Pakistan Digital Authority, and formulated the necessary rules for their operation.

The officials also shared that the government is in the final stages of appointing the chairperson and members of the Pakistan Digital Authority.
