ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) has begun implementing a digital payment system across airports nationwide. This objective behind this initiative provides convenience to millions of travelers, ensures transparency in transactions, and promotes a more efficient financial ecosystem.
The move comes under the directives of the government and in coordination with the State Bank of Pakistan’s ongoing efforts to increase digital financial inclusion.
The new system will enable passengers and service providers at all airports to carry out transactions through various digital payment platforms, reducing reliance on cash.
Furthermore, all commercial outlets, vendors, and service providers operating within airport premises have been instructed to adopt the digital payment system.
The transition will cover a wide range of services, including retail shops, restaurants, car rentals, and other passenger facilities available at domestic and international terminals.
In this regard, the initiative will not only simplify payment procedures for travelers but also strengthen financial transparency and accountability.
In this sense, passengers will still have the option to make cash payments during the transition phase; authorities are encouraging travelers to switch to digital methods for quicker and more secure transactions. In this case, the new Gwadar International Airport is also included in the verdict.
Moreover, the move aligns with Pakistan’s broader vision to expand digital infrastructure and support the government’s agenda for a cashless economy.
Meanwhile, airports across the country are set to offer passengers a faster, safer, and more convenient travel experience, indicating Pakistan’s growing commitment to digital innovation and financial modernization.
