DG ISPR to Hold Important Press Briefing

ISLAMABAD: Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations (DG ISPR), Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, will hold a major press conference today at 3:00 pm.

According to the Pakistan Army spokesperson, the DG ISPR will address key national security issues during the briefing.

He will provide the media with a detailed update on the country’s security situation and respond to questions from journalists following the briefing.

The press conference is expected to cover developments of strategic importance and ongoing security operations across the country.

Earlier today, the Ministry of Defence notified the appointment of Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir as Pakistan’s first Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) after receiving presidential approval.

In a notification issued on Friday, the ministry said Munir will hold the new post while continuing to serve as Chief of Army Staff. His term as CDF will run for five years.
Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has also approved a two-year extension for Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Babar Sidhu. The extension will begin after Sidhu completes his current five-year term in March 2026.

Officials said the summary recommending Munir’s dual appointment had already been sent to the presidency. The move marks the creation of a new top military position and makes Munir the first officer to hold it.

The notification formalises the government’s decision to strengthen the country’s defence command structure. It places overall military oversight under a single Chief of Defence Forces while Munir continues in the traditional role of Army Chief.
